The Helmholtz Institute for One Health (HIOH) Greifswald is a branch of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI). Here, we research the connections between the health of humans, animals and their environment. Our goal is to better understand zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance and the evolution of pathogens, and thus contribute to the prevention of pandemics. Founded in 2021, the institute, with its international and interdisciplinary teams in a total of five research groups, is a beacon for innovative One Health research in one of the most beautiful regions of Germany, directly on the Baltic Sea.
The ‘Lab- and Datamanagement’ department is currently being set up. Together with the One Health Surveillance (OHS), you will design and develop a database that aims to archive the collected samples and data and to make them available for research throughout. In addition, you will work closely with the scientific and administrative departments at the HIOH. You are part of an international team and enjoy sharing your knowledge and providing advice.
Tasks
- Design and implementation of a comprehensive data management system (HIOH-internal, incl. laboratory processes and bioinformatics pipelines)
- Guidelines for handling data
- Monitoring system for samples and data
- Automation of processes and data streams
- Technical supervision of and budget responsibility for project-related service providers
- Structuring and migration of existing data (databases) into the new concept
- Technical integration of the biobanks into the data (database) system (including automated sample handling)
- Comprehensive documentation of the data management systems and other tools created
- Design/implementation/monitoring of the data management system for various cohort studies (OHS)
- Development of the system
- Integration of various (physiological) measurement systems
- Quality monitoring
- FAIRification
- Consultancy for project and ethics applications regarding data management/support in the creation of data management plans
- In-house presentations/leading seminars on data management/data analysis (German/English)
- Training of technical staff in the data management system (including database back-up design)
- Contact person for AI questions/coordination with the HZI's AI representative
- Contribution to scientific publications, lectures, presentations
- Writing project proposals in the field of data management/biobanking/FAIRification
Prerequisites
- Completed university/master's degree in natural sciences with a doctorate
- Experience in the management and establishment of data platforms in interdisciplinary areas (environment, humans, animals)
- Experience in the analysis of complex data sets
- Experience in working with relational databases (SQL)
- Programming skills in Python/R/Shell
- Experience in interface programming of APIs
- Experience in analysing sensor data and AI
- Experience in programming field-ready data tools
- Experience in conducting courses/training/statistics consulting
- Very good written and spoken English and German
