Infections and their consequences are still responsible for one in five deaths worldwide. In this context, newly emerging and recurring pathogens, chronic infections and increasing resistance to approved drugs present doctors with new challenges.
The CiiM was founded in 2015 as a joint initiative of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and the Hannover Medical School (MHH) and is the first research institute explicitly dedicated to the development of personalised medicine for infections. The departments and groups at CiiM are working towards the vision of treating infectious patients in a way that is adapted and optimised according to the specific needs and requirements of each individual. To achieve this, CiiM is dedicated to researching individual characteristics and their influence on susceptibility to infections or the success of treatment with available therapies.
The position is to be filled in the BIIM department. Our goal is to elucidate the genetic risk factors for susceptibility to infection and the subsequent molecular processes. This is crucial to advance our understanding and individual treatment of infectious diseases and to improve the identification of patients at risk. As a department of the HZI, we are assigned to the Center for Individualised Infection Medicine and are currently located at TWINCORE in Hannover.
