The Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) is a branch of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig. Currently, around 280 employees of international origin work and conduct research at our institute. The HIPS is the first publicly funded, non-university research insitution in Germany that is explicitly dedicated to pharmaceutical research. The institute works closely with Saarland University and also cooperates with national and international research institutions and industrial companies.
In your role as a computer scientist at the Saarbrücken site, you will work within the structures of the HZI computing centre at the interface between the IT infrastructure, bioinformatics and the scientific laboratory and measurement systems of the working groups.
As the point of contact for integrating new and existing devices into our state-of-the-art infrastructure, you will work independently and in constant consultation with our scientific working groups. In addition, as an IT employee, you will support the onboarding of new employees at the Saarbrücken site.
Tasks
- You are the point of contact for the integration of scientific equipment into the IT infrastructure
- You will look after our advanced laboratory and measurement systems from an IT perspective (updates/migration/security/data management) in close coordination with the scientific users
- You will actively participate in the further development of our continuously growing IT platform
- You support our scientific groups in designing databases and data collections. You provide assistance in processing measurement data and support the cooperation with the bioinformatics working groups
- You communicate with users, manufacturers, service providers and partners of the institute to ensure an up-to-date and secure software installation, a smooth scientific operation and to channel information
- You will help to create documentation, maintain our internal wiki pages and a scientific software catalogue
- You will work in current, often interdisciplinary, IT projects and independently take on subtasks
- You will support the administration of the basic infrastructure and client deployment
Prerequisites
- A successfully completed technical university degree in the field of computer science, bioinformatics or a STEM degree programme with a strong affinity for IT. Alternatively, you have successfully completed a technical apprenticeship in the IT field (e.g. in computer science) and have many years of professional experience and the corresponding expertise.
- Proven IT experience in client-server operation and related tasks, knowledge of Windows server and client operating systems and their administration in networks
- Broad basic knowledge and professional experience in the IT field and an affinity for scientific measurement and laboratory systems, or a willingness to acquire this knowledge.
- Linux and scripting skills are desirable
- Target and solution-oriented, communicative way of working, as well as enthusiasm for complex and challenging tasks.
- Very good written and spoken German and English skills, as required in an international research organisation
