Award for the HZI Internet presence

HZI website wins TYPO3 Award in the “Health” category

In April 2024, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) completely revamped its website together with the digital agency +Pluswerk. The aim of this relaunch was to present the HZI and its scientific work to the public in an appealing, contemporary design. The new HZI website has now won the TYPO3 Award in the “Health” category. The award was presented at the TYPO3 Conference 2024 in Düsseldorf.

The HZI's new website presents the complex world of infection research in a way that the public can understand: Scientific content, current news and the structure of the HZI are presented in a clear design and with intuitive navigation. The website is not only responsive and accessible, but also offers a significantly improved user experience on mobile devices.

“We are very proud of this award,” says Jens Krumm, CEO of +Pluswerk. “Behind this success is an outstanding team effort by everyone involved. The developers and project managers at +Pluswerk worked hand in hand with the HZI's online team. Close and regular communication, clear agreements and a shared passion for the project ensured that the result even exceeded the high expectations.”

A total of 138 websites were submitted in 13 categories, 61 of which were nominated for the TYPO3 Award. TYPO3 is the content management system that is also used to operate the HZI website. In addition to the HZI website, other nominees in the “Health” category included the Federal Clinic Atlas and the AOK health portal. A six-member jury of experts from the digital industry assessed the websites in terms of user-friendliness, performance, design, accessibility and susceptibility to errors, among other things.
