The WASA project runs continued education seminars which address topics such as "Guideline-based antibiotics management of upper and lower airway and urinary tract infections by general practitioners". The training sessions were developed by the Hygienenetzwerk Südostniedersachsen (Prof Dr Dr Bautsch, Municipal Clinic Braunschweig). The seminars aim to summarise the major aspects of the current guidelines and are presented by uniformly trained and experienced medical speakers.
All interested physicians, specifically general practitioners and internal medicine specialists from the southeast region of Lower Saxony who work as primary care physicians, are invited to attend the events. The training materials include a copy of the handbook titled "Rational oral antibiotics therapy for adults for physicians in private practice", the second edition of which has just been published by the State Health Authority of Lower Saxony. Participation in the seminars is free of charge; an application for 5 CME credits has been filed with the General Medical Council of Lower Saxony.
The Department for Epidemiology of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) evaluates the seminars scientifically. If the evaluation yields promising results, the materials and experience acquired can be used to expand the seminars to other geographical regions. For the evaluation, the participants are asked to complete questionnaires anonymously on a voluntary basis. Furthermore, routine data supplied by AOK Lower Saxony will be analysed.
The following training dates have been set: 02 May Braunschweig, 17 May Wolfenbüttel, 19 June Braunschweig, 20 June Gifhorn, 27 June Wolfsburg, 29 August Goslar, and 5 September Salzgitter. No prior registration is required.
