Systems Biology as basic research is considered an important starting point for a medicine that increasingly relies on individually targeted disease control. The research objective of the award winner Sahamoddin Khailaie is to understand diseases related to the immune system with the help of mathematical models. The MTZ®foundation of Thomas and Monika Zimmermann is a non-profit independent foundation with the aim of honouring innovative approaches in medical research, with young scientists at the centre of the foundation's work. The involvement of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and top-class selection committees ensure the high quality of the foundation's work. The MTZ®-Award has thus become an important prize for young scientists in Germany.
