Prof. Dr. Dietmar Pieper
Forschungsgruppenleiter

Dietmar Pieper hat an den Universitäten Gießen und Göttingen Biologie mit Schwerpunkt Mikrobiologie studiert und sich während seiner Promotion an der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen und der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal (1986) mit dem mikrobiellen Abbau von Schadstoffen beschäftigt. In den folgenden Jahren vertiefte er seine Kenntnisse zu mikrobiellen Abbauprozessen durch Bakterien und Pilze als Post-doc am Institut für Mikrobiologie der Universität Stuttgart (1986-1988) und am Institut für biochemische Pflanzenpathologie der GSF München (1988-1990).

Im Jahr 1991 wechselte er zum HZI – damals GBF – und leitet dort die Arbeitsgruppe Mikrobielle Interaktionen und Prozesse. Die Arbeitsgruppe beschäftigte sich insbesondere mit der Funktion und Optimierung mikrobieller Lebensgemeinschaften zum Schadstoffabbau unter in-situ-Bedingungen. Zur Zeit arbeitet sie vor allem an Gemeinschaften, die mit dem Menschen assoziiert sind und an Interaktionen mit Pathogenen, basierend auf Kenntnissen und Methoden, die im Rahmen der Charakterisierung mikrobieller Gemeinschaften in kontaminierten Umwelten gewonnen wurden.
