Prof. Dunja Bruder

Dunja Bruder studierte Biotechnologie an der Technischen Universität Braunschweig und schloss 1996 mit dem Diplom ab. Schon während ihres Studiums hat sie sich für die Immunologie begeistert und sich im Rahmen ihrer Dissertation am Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infektionsforschung mit Immunantworten gegen bakterielle Toxine beschäftigt (1996-1999).
In den folgenden Jahren hat Dunja Bruder als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin der Nachwuchsgruppe „Mukosale Immunität“ am HZI unter anderem ein transgenes Mausmodel für die Erforschung von T-Zell-vermittelter Entzündung der Lunge etabliert. Dieses Mausmodell nutzte sie in den folgenden Jahren intensiv zur Erforschung der immunologischen Funktionen des Alveolarepithels.
In einer Vielzahl von Auslandsaufenthalten, unter anderem an der Harvard Medical School in Boston und der Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, hat sie ihr immunologisches Methodenspektrum erweitert und das Mausmodell für Influenza A Virusinfektionen erlernt. Ihre erfolgreiche Forschungsarbeit wurde 2005 mit dem „Young Investigator Award“ der „Society of Mucosal Immunology“ belohnt.

Seit Oktober 2006 leitet Dunja Bruder die Arbeitsgruppe „Immunregulation“ am HZI und erhielt 2008 den Preis als „Betreuerin des Jahres“ für ihre vorbildliche Ausbildung von Doktoranden. Im Dezember 2009 habilitierte sie an der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover für das Fach Immunologie. Seit August 2011 ist Dunja Bruder Universitätsprofessorin für Infektionsimmunologie im Institut für Medizinische Mikrobiologie und Krankenhaushygiene an der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität (OVGU) in Magdeburg und forscht seitdem parallel an beiden Standorten. Seit 2014 ist sie Vorstandsmitglied des SFB 854, in dem Wissenschaftler aus Magdeburg und u.a. des HZI und der TU Braunschweig gemeinsam an der molekularen Organisation der Kommunikation im Immunsystem forschen. Ebenfalls seit 2014 leitet sie das in den SFB 854 integrierte Graduiertenkolleg MGK 854. Seit 2017 ist Dunja Bruder zudem Sprecherin des Modul 3 („Immunosenescence: Infection and immunity in the context of aging“) der Internationalen Graduiertenschule ABINEP (Analysis, Imaging, and Modelling of Neuronal and Inflammatory Processes), innerhalb derer Kliniker des Universitätsklinikums der OVGU Magdeburg gemeinsam mit Wissenschaftlern des HZI klinisch-translationale Forschungsprojekte im Bereich der Infektionsforschung bearbeiten.
