The HZI is looking for support for the BioS student laboratory as soon as possible.

As Germany's largest non-university infection research centre, the HZI is a member of the Helmholtz Association and conducts cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Our scientists develop novel methods and strategies to fight infectious diseases faster and more effectively. Our common goal is to develop novel approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Bacterial and viral pathogens, their interaction with the human immune system and new effective active substances and vaccines are at the centre of our research.

The BioS school laboratory sees itself as a bridge between school, university and modern biological research. BioS is an extracurricular learning centre jointly run by the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), the Technical University of Braunschweig (TU BS), the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures and the Regional State Office for Schools and Education in Braunschweig. It is located on the Science Campus Braunschweig Süd. BioS was founded in 2002 and has so far attracted 33,000 participants, especially pupils in grades 11-13 in all-day courses. Management, organisation and implementation are in the hands of seconded teachers. The BioS school laboratory has state-of-the-art laboratory equipment for molecular biology, microbiology and biochemistry. At many schools, the excursion to the BioS school laboratory is firmly anchored in the school curriculum, with up to 21 thematically different courses to choose from. Further details can be found at www.bios-braunschweig.de.
