The Finance & Controlling department is looking for a specialist in external funding project controlling.

As a member of the Helmholtz Association, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, based in Braunschweig, conducts cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Our scientists develop novel methods and strategies to fight infectious diseases faster and more effectively. Our common goal is to develop novel approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Our research centres on bacterial and viral pathogens, their interaction with the human immune system and new effective agents and vaccines.

The Finance and Controlling department at the Centre manages the finances of the entire HZI. Controlling includes corporate controlling with global budget management and project controlling for the administrative support of scientific projects. The department works closely with the scientific institutions and other administrative areas. The Project Controlling team within the department is responsible for the management of externally funded projects. Its tasks include advising project managers on financial and scheduling issues, administrative activities in the context of project implementation, communicating with funding bodies, preparing financial reports, applying for amendments and providing support during audits. The team consists of ten members under the leadership of Dr Berenike Henneberg.

Tasks
  • Processing and financial project management of national and international externally funded research projects
  • Ensuring compliance with various funding guidelines
  • Budgeting, ongoing controlling, call-offs and independent communication with public and private funding organisations and research partners
  • Reporting with projections, ad-hoc analyses
  • Cross-departmental collaboration in the course of project implementation
  • Organisation and implementation of seminars, training courses or presentations on project implementation
Prerequisites
  • Completed commercial training or comparable training with equivalent knowledge and skills
  • Expertise in controlling
  • First relevant professional experience in a comparable professional field
  • Initial experience in dealing with funding projects from various funding bodies
  • Basic knowledge of the Federal Budget Code
  • High degree of reliability, sense of responsibility and a structured approach, as well as independence and coordination skills
  • Reliable and user-friendly IT skills (SAP R/3, MS Office programmes)
  • English language skills (oral and written)

  • An affinity for numbers, with a penchant for spreadsheets and no shyness when it comes to contracts
  • Ability to quickly familiarise yourself with complex issues
  • Ability to work in a team and good communication skills
Working hours

39 hours per week
