The junior research group CPIC, headed by Dr Milan Gerovac, is looking for a technical assistant.

As a member of the Helmholtz Association, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, based in Braunschweig, conducts cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Our scientists develop novel methods and strategies to fight infectious diseases faster and more effectively. Our common goal is to develop novel approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Our research centres on bacterial and viral pathogens, their interaction with the human immune system and new effective agents and vaccines.

The CPIC junior research group at the HZI is an innovative research laboratory that is shaping the future of antimicrobial research! We are passionate about bacterial viruses, also known as phages, and aim to translate their ingenuity into novel antimicrobial therapeutics. We integrate state-of-the-art high-throughput multi-omics, functional screening and microscopy with the latest generation equipment to shed light on the complex lives of jumbo phages, which are a playground for discovery. The research team consists of passionate researchers, innovators and above all collaborative team players with strong international connections and exchanges. We are looking for dedicated individuals to join our dynamic and growing team in an innovative and changing environment with opportunities for growth and to drive the next wave of scientific breakthroughs.

  • Documentation and sample tracking for data integrity and traceability using the latest digital tools
Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed vocational training as a technical assistant or biology laboratory assistant or comparable training with equivalent skills
  • Experience in molecular biology, biotechnology and microbiology (e.g. PCR, SDS-PAGE, *blotting, cell counting)
  • Experience with instrumental analysis (e.g. FPLC, HPLC, microscopy, fractionation)
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail as well as stress resistant
  • Solid technical understanding and ability to adapt to new technologies and methods as needed for evolving research projects
  • Confident with standard computer software (e.g. MS Office, LIMS, ELN)
  • Basic communication skills in German and English with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and researchers (e.g. chat services, virtual conferences)
