The HZI, TWINCORE site, is looking for an IT system administrator to start as soon as possible.

TWINCORE is a joint institution of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and Hannover Medical School (MHH). At TWINCORE, physicians and basic scientists conduct joint research in infection research, particularly at the interface between basic research and clinical development. This basic research aims to develop new therapies and diagnostic procedures for patients and at the same time to find answers to questions from clinical practice.

The administration takes care of all organisational tasks and works closely with the management and all scientific departments. TWINCORE recognises the current challenges in IT, particularly in the area of cyber security and the use of AI, as an important part of the company's long-term success. Therefore, in addition to fulfilling user requirements, particular emphasis is placed on the further development of the IT infrastructure. Short decision-making paths, direct dialogue with various departments (e.g. Facility Management, Purchasing, Controlling) and good coordination within the team are critical factors for success.

Tasks
  • Conceptual development of the IT infrastructure in cooperation with the management/administrative management
  • User support for TWINCORE employees in all IT matters
  • Support for all local systems under Windows, Linux and MacOS
  • Support for all global server systems (virtualised)
  • Support for all global hard disc systems
  • Service and maintenance for the network in the TWINCORE building (firewall, router, switches)
  • Installation and support for specific scientific software
  • Technical support for video conferencing technology and at events
  • Coordination of collaboration with the IT departments of both partners
Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed technical university/bachelor's degree in the field of computer science or information technology or successfully completed technical training in the IT field (e.g. IT specialist) with several years of corresponding experience
  • Extensive experience in the administration of IT systems under Debian and Ubuntu
  • Relevant knowledge in the areas of network technology, virtualisation (PROXMOX), telephony
  • Software-defined storage (Ceph and ZFS)
  • Knowledge of VPN (ipsec, Open VPN)
  • Previous knowledge of endpoint management and MDM
  • Very good oral and written knowledge of German and English
  • Good knowledge of Windows and/or macOS
