The ‘Finance and Controlling’ department is looking for a manager for the ‘Corporate Controlling’ team

As a member of the Helmholtz Association, the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, based in Braunschweig, conducts cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases. Our scientists develop novel methods and strategies to fight infectious diseases faster and more effectively. Our common goal is to develop novel approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. Our research centres on bacterial and viral pathogens, their interaction with the human immune system and new effective agents and vaccines.


The Finance and Controlling department is responsible for the financial management of the centre and its facilities. The ‘Corporate Controlling’ team is responsible for budget management and controlling throughout the HZI, including its sites. The main tasks are planning, applying for and accounting for institutional funding/preparing the business plan and proof of use, managing the basic budget including internal accounting (cost and performance accounting, full cost accounting) and controlling all budget funds. The team supports the HZI's decision-makers by providing management-relevant information.  In addition to preparing and analysing data and key figures for internal and external requirements, the focus is also on ensuring data quality. The team is responsible for internal and external financial reporting.

Tasks

As Head, you will be responsible for the professional management of the team, which currently consists of four employees. You will continuously develop your area strategically and conceptually and actively create innovations in the controlling system and reporting in coordination with the department head and management with a forward-looking approach. You will be responsible for annual budget planning, forecasting including liquidity planning as well as ongoing financial analyses and reporting within the HZI. You will advise and support the head of department and management in all matters relating to budget management and controlling. 

Prerequisites
  • Completed university degree in the field of business administration or economics or comparable specialisation, preferably with a focus on finance and accounting
  • Professional experience in financial management
  • Leadership experience and gender competence
  • Knowledge of budgeting and finance (cameralistics and double-entry accounting) as well as third-party funding management desirable
  • Strategic thinking and a conceptual way of working
  • Good communication skills, ability to work in a team and a high level of responsibility
  • You have proficient user knowledge of standard financial accounting software (preferably SAP) and MS Office programmes
  • Good English and German language skills (oral and written)

39 hours per week
